            “Things Fall Apart,” a postcolonial novel written by Chinua Achebe in 1858, just prior to Nigerian independence, provides a counter-hegemonic story regarding Okonkwo, a proud Igbo man, who is the victim of imperialism and the assimilation of his culture. The author, Achebe, has a profound influence over the text, as his personal history regarding the subject provides significant contextual information that enables the story to be one of the most groundbreaking accomplishments in African literature. The said influence that Achebe has over the text stems from his personal identity, as a Christian Igbo and his objective of deconstructing the one sided story produced by colonialism. This is thus revealed in the development of plot, the characterization of various people and the subsequent theme established.   


Topic sentence 1: The primary way in which Achebe contributes significance when regarding the construction of this novel is his target of expressing the multitude of voices present in literature. This is done by organizing the plot in a circular manner and then providing details in sequential order, thus relaying the conflicts within the Igbo culture.
