Pitch Reflection
FAKE MEAT IN
HONG KONG
What main
appeals did you use in your pitch?
The type of
appeal that our group used was the appeal to physiological needs and the need
to save the planet.
Why did you
decide they would be the most effective?
This appeal to
the physiological needs and health was best suited for the product we were
advertising, which was fake meat made from high protein plant sources, since it
would be related to health and sustainability.
We used
rhetorical questions to attract our audience to the ‘fake meat.’ Additionally,
we explored the idea of exploiting fear in the audience as to the harmful
effects of eating regular meat and how that thought persuades people to
purchase our product. This technique pathos is effective because the
manipulation of fear allures to the emotion of the audience.
Furthermore, we
thought it best to use celebrities, with the use of match-up hypothesis, where
the celebrity could be endorsers for the product and help promote this. This
was one angle from which we approached the task, since the context influenced
this decision.
How did an
awareness of audience and context influence your overall approach to this
activity?
As mentioned
above, the context influenced the use of celebrities. This approach was done
due to the fact that the people of Hong Kong appreciate a ‘western’ influence
and trust their opinion.
What were some
specific persuasive techniques you used (include examples)?
“Why risk your
health
with the
damaging affects of red meat
when you can
preserve it?”
-Rhetorical
question with the aspect of fear.
Explain the use
of some of the images you included. Why did you feel they would be effective?
-Gwyneth Paltrow
endorsing vegan meat

-An example of
where to place the advertisement
|
The effect of
these images is that it gives the products’ company an idea into what our
campaign will actually look like and serve as a guide when we actually
advertise it.
Comment on the
effectiveness of your presentation. How will this activity inform how you prepare
for your FOA?
I am confident that the pitch went well because my group had an abundance of information that helped in making the presentation progress smoothly. We were also positive that that the type of appeal we used was
successful in attracting our target audience. This, in turn, will help in the FOA
criteria A and B, where the knowledge and understanding of the text is very
important.
Improvements:
We thought that
we could be more well-rehearsed and give more time for each member in the group
to talk.
